Effingo is the latin word for “duplicate” and this is what it’s all about. Effingo will become a system to detect various kinds of duplicates in internet forums. Such duplicates range from simple double posts to complex semantical duplications.
Why should one try to find such posts? Well actually there is no single answer to this question but a single reason to answer it. Duplication is boring! No one wants to see, read or hear the same things over and over again. Humankind is driven by progress and duplicates are the opposite. If you ever experienced the case that you where searching the answer to some problem on the web and got the same not suitable answer over and over again, you know what I mean. Duplicates hide the interesting new content that really matters. In addition they increase the load on machine and operator. Therefore Effingo tries to be a system that is able to detect such content and thereby help operators to handle it more efficiently or even automatically.
Effingo is focused on question answering. It tries to find existing questions for a user in various web forums and show their answers aggregated in one place. If no such question is found the user can have higher confidence that it was never asked on the web before. In such a case Effingo will at least recommend forums appropriate for the topic the question belongs to.
